Harley-Davidson Lockheed Vega 5B Highwing Airplane Bank This Harley-Davidson, 1932 Lockheed Vega Vintage Plane Bank is 8 1/2" inches long with an 11 inch wingspan, and weighs over one pound. Made sturdy die cast metal, it will bring years of enjoyment to collectors of all age. The coin slot is hiden under the cockpit, and the cowl twists off to retrieve your saving. The Lockheed Vega 5B was the plane Amelia Earhart flew when she became the first woman to cross the Atlantic alone. The Vega was among the first planes to have drag-reducing engine cowl design and a single high wing. Also, the Vega introduced monocoque construction - the body covering itself was the frame carrying the pilot and its cargo. This construction is standar on modern planes because absorbs stress, is lighter, and allows more cargo space.
